About Laura
Laura Baer has practiced law in South Carolina since being admitted in September 2013, and previously practiced in Maryland following her graduation from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 2010. While in law school, Laura was an editor of the University of Baltimore Law Review and inducted into the Heuisler Honor Society, made up of the top ten percent of the graduating class. Upon graduation, Laura clerked for the Honorable Ronald A. Silkworth at the Anne Arundel County Circuit Court in Annapolis, Maryland. Following her relocation back to her home state of South Carolina, Laura spent nearly four years as an Appellate Defender at the South Carolina Commission on Indigent Defense, handling over two hundred direct appeals and post-conviction relief appeals before the South Carolina Court of Appeals and South Carolina Supreme Court.
Since 2019, Laura has represented companies and individuals across the state in a variety of civil litigation matters. She completed the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys’ Association’s Trial Academy in Spring 2019. Prior to joining Crowe LaFave, Laura practiced at another civil defense firm in Columbia. Laura handles cases involving claims of negligence, premises liability, false imprisonment, product liability, alcohol liability, assault and other torts. Laura also has experience handling insurance coverage matters, including coverage opinions and litigation, and civil and criminal appeals. She has successfully defended her clients in a variety of cases in South Carolina state court and the United States Federal District Court for the District of South Carolina.
Laura is a member of the South Carolina Bar’s Practice and Procedure Committee, which studies and makes recommendations regarding the State’s rules and law pertaining to practice and procedure. She also serves on the Fifth Circuit Resolution of Fee Disputes Board.
Laura and her husband, Dave, have three sons. They are active members of Blythewood Presbyterian Church.
